Description
The Marco Sari’s trail is a relatively easy itinerary which can also be done during the winter season with snow-rackets or back-country skies.
This trail starts from the car park of the lower station of Tognòla Góndola cable-car at 1,400m a.s.l. and develops along the amazing forest of Alpe Tognòla, for approximately 800m of elevation gain. The itinerary is extremely well marked with yellow signs carved on the trees and wooden signs, from the beginning until its very end and it is fair to say that it is simply impossible to get lost.
The path gently starts in the dense forest of larches and spruces, for then gradually climbing the hill of Alpe Tognòla, reaching the pastures surrounding Malga Crél. After Malga Crél, the forest opens up and offers an amazing view on the Pale di San Martino (Dolomites).
The itinerary continues gradually in an open environment among sparse vegetation and rocks until it reaches on of the peaks of Alpe Tognola (2,164m a.s.l.).
Having reached the highest point of the itinerary, we recommend to start descending toward Malga Tognòla along the ski slope and stop for a break before taking the well marked Sentiero Ecologico trail, which leads to Malga Frattazza (also known as Malga Frataza) and back to the starting point.
This is an easy itinerary, which allows to spend a day in a mountain environment, with the opportunity of having short breaks for refreshing by the several alpine huts you can find along the way.
