Description
Comfortable and spectacular walk that allows you to explore an area of beauty and little known, at the foot of the Agnèr chain and the Pala Group. This itinerary features paths that are never too hard and it has a strong spiritual appeal, allowing you to experience the silence and beauty of one of the most beautiful Dolomite balconies in the Valley of Mis.
The route starts from Forcella Aurine (1,299 m asl), a small tourist resort (and pass) that connects Agordo with Gosaldo and the close Passo Cereda, where a convenient parking lot allows you to leave your car and venture along the thematic path “Spiriti dell’Aria” (tr. spirits of the air), well signposted.
After passing the last houses of the hamlet of Forcella Aurine, the route takes the path of the Signpost No. 733 uphill through a forest of beech and larch trees, which – in a short while – allows you to comfortably ascend. Once past the forest, you find yourself immersed in a green slope that climbs up to the gap of Passo del Col di Luna (1,718 m asl), where a breathtaking sight allows a three 360-degree view of the Agnèr chain, the peaks of Moiazza, the one of Framont, the Valley of Agordo and the summit of Piz di Sagron, making a short pause to admire the surrounding panorama almost mandatory. It is also possible to reach Passo del Col di Luna with a detour to the right, along a steep track that climbs to the cross placed on the top of Col di Luna.
From the gap, the walk continues following the yellow and blue posts, which serve as markers for the last section of the hike leading to the Tibetan Temple. Climbing the ridge that presents itself towards the N, and overcoming the last stretches of grassy slope along the Coston di Luna, the environment becomes for all intents and purposes mountainous in a path between the rocks, where at times the signs are not clearly visible but the steps and the logical line of development of the path allow you to advance without problems. Passing an area characterized by the presence of conspicuous mountain pines – and passing a subsequent hill – the itinerary reaches a saddle under a marked ridge adorned with typical Tibetan prayers (flags). The trail then ascends on narrow, steep changes of direction (where you must pay attention because of the possible exposure on some sides) until reaching a ridge where a small reconstruction of a Tibetan Temple (1,950 m asl) dominates. The isolated and distinctive temple, which overlooks the vertical E face of Croda Granda, allows hikers to enjoy an unusual atmosphere that mixes Dolomite walls with the remote Tibet.
It is possible to head back to Forcella Aurine by following the same trail used during the ascent or, having descended from the ridge faced in the final part of the ascent, it is possible to descend along the grassy slopes until reaching the Signpost No. 773, which, rather flat, leads back to Passo del Col di Luna and consequently the return to Forcella Aurine.
