Description
This not physically demanding hike draws a loop around the peak of Vedèrna, reaching the Cross (Croce degli Alpini) on Mount Vedèrna and the WWI military outposts of Morósna (known as Stóli di Morósna).
The loop starts at the hut of Rifugio Vederna (1,324 m asl). It is possible to reach Rifugio Vedèrna either by walking from Imèr, going up the old military road that leads to the pastures of Prati Vedèrna, or by driving along the ten-kilometers gravel road that starts near the Schenèr dam, in Pontét (Municipality of Imèr). By car, the road does not have any danger, however just be aware of the fact that it is not constantly maintained. During the summer months on the weekend days, it is possible to drive to Alpe Vedèrna also from the village of Imèr, taking the road in Val Noana.
The trail initially follows the Signpost No. 736 towards Imèr. After about 1 km of non-steep descent, the route takes a path on the left heading N, with signs pointing to Stóli di Morósna. The path gently climbs on the eastern slopes of Mount Vedèrna covered by the forest, until reaching, after a couple of kilometers, the crossroads with the steep path called Trói dei Alpini (tr. path of the Alpine troops). The Trói dei Alpini connects the village of Imèr with the Croce degli Alpini (tr. Alpine troops cross), climbing the steep slopes of Mount Vedèrna. From the crossroads, the route presents a small variant of about 20 minutes which leads uphill towards the N along the path marked with small Italian flags, directly leading to the cross. Croce degli Alpini (1,517 m asl), located near the top of Mount Vedèrna, is undoubtedly one of the most classic half-altitude viewpoints offered in the Primiero Valley. After a short break, the trail returns along the path to Stóli di Morórsna, continuing along the contour until getting to the pretty pasture of the location of Campigolét. From the pasture, the path widens, merging into a gravel road, which in a few hundred meters leads to the intersection with another forest road (Strada de Morósna). The route continues along the Strada de Morósna towards the N, until reaching the large meadow of the Maso Morósna. Once at Morósna, it is possible, with a very short variant, to visit the nearby Stóli (military tunnels of the Great War).
The return from Morósna follows the gravel road called Strada de Morósna towards the SE in the direction of Alpe Vedèrna, which passes the hill called Col de la Stangada (1,393 m asl). From the top of the hill, the route will be marked as Signpost No. 741, after the junction with the road called Strada del Colàz. After about 3 km of easy walk from Morórna, the trail reaches the starting location, by the hut of Rifugio Vedèrna and its small church, dedicated to Our Lady of Snow.
