This classic hike takes place entirely on the Pala Group Plateau, a rock desert located at 2,600 m, and starting from the hut of Rifugio Rosetta leads to the summit of one of the most iconic and historically relevant peaks: Cima Fradusta

In the summer season, the trail to the summit is always well-marked and rather popular; the winter version of this hike (with snowshoes), on the other hand, is a bit more adventurous and not recommended for inexperienced hikers. The snow-covered trail is not evident (although tracks are often present) and one must have a good and consistent sense of direction. In winter you will often find yourself completely alone, but this represents the most characteristic part of being able to walk on the Pala Group Plateau with snow, enjoying the peaceful spectacle provided by the Pale.

Getting to Rifugio Rosetta is relatively easy, thanks to the presence of the Colverde Rosetta cable car that, directly from the village of San Martino di Castrozza, takes you to 2,633 m, next to the hut of Rifugio Rosetta “Giovanni Pedrotti”. It is advisable to look at the cable car schedule beforehand; in winter it is usually open during some weekends and with a limited schedule.

From Rifugio Rosetta (2,581 m asl), the route follows the trail of the Signpost No. 707 for a little more than a kilometer, until it arrives at the crossroads with the Signpost No. 709, that the itinerary takes toward Passo Pradidali Basso / Rifugio Pradidali. With a series of ups and downs, the walk reaches the junction at the gap of Passo Pradidali Basso (2,658 m asl), where it continues on the Signpost No. 708 toward Passo Canali.

After reaching the gap of Passo della Fradusta (2,680 m asl), the Signpost No. 708 continues skirting the base of the (former) Fradusta Glacier, with the summit of Fradusta clearly visible on the right, toward S. After crossing the lower part of the glacier, the trail continues toward the fork named Forcella Alta della Fradusta, which is soon reached. Shortly before the fork (2,715 m asl) the route turns S, on a track that goes up the wide ridge that descends to the N of the summit, which – in a little more than half an hour – leads directly to Cima Fradusta (2,939 m asl).

The view from the summit is simply spectacular and definitely not second to the more touristic and easily reachable Cima Rosetta. Cima Fradusta, in fact, dominates to the N – in addition to “its” glacier – the entire Pala Group Plateau, to the W the Valley of Pradidali and to the S the Valón de le Léde and the Valley of Canali, with the nearby peaks of Wilma and Canali.

  • From Rifugio Rosetta “Giovanni Pedrotti” (2,581 m asl), follow the Signpost No. 707 toward Passo Pradidali Basso / Rifugio Pradidali [1h 10],
  • From the crossroads on the gap of Passo Pradidali Basso (2,658 m asl), take the Signpost No. 709 and then the Signpost No. 708 toward Passo Canali / Cima Fradusta [2h 20],
  • Leave the Signpost No. 708 and follow the trail up the ridge in a S direction toward the summit of Cima Fradusta (2,939 m asl) [3h 00]. ✓
