Description

This classic itinerary, suitable for all hikers, runs along the main access to the hut of Rifugio Pradidali (2,278 m asl). The characteristic route combines the naturalistic beauty of the forests of the Canali and Pradidali valleys, with the breathtaking views of the summits of the Pala Group from the Rifugio, located in the Upper Pradidali Valley.

The hike, one way, involves a climb of nearly 1,300 m, spread over the nearly 6 km of ascent.

The trail of the Signpost No. 709, well marked and visible, starts at the location of Sabbionade / La Ritonda (1,180 m asl), where it begins to climb while following the course of the stream of Rio Pradidali in the wooded environment offered by the Lower Valley of Pradidali – one of the most iconic valleys of the Pale di San Martino – which forms a wide amphitheater with breathtaking natural views of the peaks (from W to E) of Cimèrlo, Stanga, Madonna, di Ball, Canali, Sasso delle Léde and d’Ostio. Having passed the junction that, on the right, leads to the ruins of Malga Pradidali, the Signpost No. 709 proceeds through the sparse forest of fir, larch and mugho trees until it reaches the crossroads located at Portèla / Pedemonte (1,640 m asl), at the foot of the imposing S face of Cima Canali (2,859 m asl).

From the crossroads, the walk continues along the Signpost No. 709, leaving the forest behind and beginning to climb up a slightly more technical and exposed steep section, which has some equipped stretches with fixed ropes; the equipped sections of this part of the trail, which leads directly to Rifugio Pradidali, are not particularly dangerous, but – regardless – it is better to be careful.

Once past the junction with the path of Sédole “Riccardo Simon”, the steepest part of the ascent is overcome and the landscape starts opening up, taking your gaze from being crushed by the imposing rock walls to the green and more open valley basin of the High Valley of Pradidali (on which Rifugio Pradidali is located), surrounded by a stupendous Dolomite panorama.

A junction with the Signpost No. 715, which the itinerary follows, precedes the last few meters before reaching directly the hut of Rifugio Pradidali

At the hut, of particular note is the new bivouac, restored and inaugurated in July 2018, among the four winners of the “Building Trentino 2013-2016″ architecture award.
