Description

The hike to the summit called Cima dei Paradisi is a classic itinerary in the Valley of Vanoi that fits both to the summer season for trekking, and the winter season for snowshoes or ski touring. Given the safety, the wide visibility and the limited exposure of the access to the summit, in the winter season the route is particularly popular for ski mountaineers and hikers, also performing it solo. Although this hike is not a loop, the ascent to Cima dei Paradisi is still a very interesting, panoramic and thus recommended itinerary.

The starting point is by the hut of Rifugio Refavaie (1,116 m a.s.l.). From the Rifugio, take the Coldosè gravel road (Signpost No. 335), which gradually climbs along the bottom of the valley where the stream of Coltorondo flows, immersed in the forest. After about a couple of kilometers, when you reach the crossroads for Coldosè, continue to the right along the road to the hut of Malga Fossernica di dentro. During this first stretch of the route, you can shorten the trail by cutting the hairpin bends, following the tracks in the forest, usually clearly visible.

Once you arrive at Malga Fossernica di dentro (1,777 m a.s.l.), the ascend continues by climbing directly on the ridge on an increasingly open slopes, until the last stretches of vegetation will be left behind. The last 100 meters of climbing are in an open environment and the ascent line is logical up until the top of the mountain.

The panorama from Cima dei Paradisi is breathtaking and allows you to have a sight on the Pale di San Martino (east), the Vette Feltrine mountain chain (south-east), Cima d’Asta (south-west), Monte Cauriòl (west) and the whole Lagorai mountain range (north, north-west).

The return follows the path of ascent, with the possibility of shortening through the forest.
