This hike is a quite popular loop around Fontanelle, a really nice mountain pasture located in San Martino di Castrozza. Even though this is a simple hike, it offers few really nice views directly facing the Dolomites by looking at its Northern side. The entire loop develops right at the bottom of the Southern part of Pale di San Martino mountains group. You will have to walk up the slope in the very beginning of the hike for then reaching a gravel road that gently leads to Val di Roda, where you will walk into a crossroad and you will approach the way back to the starting point. Ideally, we suggest this loop during the Winter season with snowshoes, if the snow condition allows you to do it. Alternatively, given the fact that the walk is extremely easy and closed to the village of San Martino di Castrozza, it is suggested to try it during the night, for a unique experience.

  • From the edge of Fontanelle mountain pasture (right outside the village of San Martino di Castrozza), take the East and cross the field up the hill, until reaching the gravel road,
  • Follow the gravel road (direction South) until Val di Roda crossroad,
  • From the crossroad, head back to Prati Col (Maso Col),
  • From Maso Col, follow the asphalt road heading to San Martino di Castrozza until reaching the starting point. ✓
